The EU’s comprehensive data protection regulation is controversial. Some see it as an important step toward protecting the basic right to informational self-determination, while others fear that it could curtail freedom of expression on the internet. In the USA there is no data protection law like in the EU. The Freiburg jurist Ralf Poscher compares the two different approaches.
